Why play is good for you
Play improves mental and physical well-being, and can even lead to increased intelligence and creative thinking.
When we play, we are completely in the moment. All that matters is the activity or game we are participating in, creating a state of flow. This is something that as adults, we usually experience only when taking part in things we excel at, such as sport, music or artistic creation. However, because play is often regarded as a somewhat frivolous activity, we rarely enter this state just for the sake of having fun.
Just as play is essential in a child’s development, it can also have enormous benefits for adults. The emotional, mental and social well-being which it can provide, all have the potential to help with stress, anxiety, depression and lack of motivation. In these modern times we are ever more connected by technology, yet see each other less and less in real life. Finding time for group games and fun activities with other adults can reduce the social isolation that this can cause.
Play can provide a much-needed recalibration of our mental, emotional and physical state. We all need a bit of a “tune-up” now and then to keep running at our optimum level.
Mindfulplay is giving you permission to play, to have fun, to feel good and to celebrate this wonderful gift of life!
